Description: This soapstone pendant bears significant resemblance to Capsian or Tenerean traditional artifacts traded throughout north Africa roughly 10,000 years ago. As I lack the technologies and understanding of how to apply them, I cannot date this piece definitely. However, comparing it with various other finds on the web ( image 1, image 2) my opinion is that it was imported to the Iberian peninsula thousands of years ago. I found it on top of a stone in on the side of a cattle path; likely it had landed there after being trod upon by farm animals.

Notable features are its semi-covering of white cortex accreted over the centuries and the four dark diamond-shapes set across its “bottom”, on the side which would have been facing outward from the wearer’s person.

Edit 11 Apr 2012: After doing more research, there’s a possibility that this item may be an early-medieval whetstone. (Reference)
