Senderismo. We go out a couple of times per week to hike and explore the area around town. Parts of the routes listed in the posts can be rather difficult if you’re not accustomed to getting outdoors and exercising, but overall they’re gentle, scenic, and IMO the finest way to get to know Extremadura. The only signage you’ll see, really, are warnings that you’re entering a hunting grounds and indeed, you’ll at times hear shots not far off. There are no safety nets here; if something happens to you up on the mountain, you’re unlikely to be found for some time. That being said, bring your phone and plenty of water and don’t make the mistake of waiting until midday to set out (unless it’s winter). Start early and return by noon and you should be fine.
