us in plaza de espana

We’re Americans from Indiana and Illinois (my girlfriend’s from Springfield, which joke never gets old here) and we love hiking and the outdoors, particularly in the countryside surrounding Zafra, in Extremadura, Spain. We’ve learned a lot during our time here and want to share our knowledge of the Castellar Ridge with you.

Somos americanos desde Indiana y Illinois (ella es de Springfield, lol) y encantamos haciendo senderismo y particularmente el campo de Zafra, en extremadura españa. Hemos aprendido mucho durante nuestro tiempo aquí y queremos compartir nuestro conocimiento del castellar, specificamente, contigo.

Las mapas enseñado aqui estaba capturada de pantalla desde Google Maps o Google Earth y modificado por Adobe Photoshop para mejorar sus formas, para ayudarlos quedan mejor en el formato del blog, y para construir mejor qualquier mensaje yo quiero mandar.

artifacts – artefactos

We’ve found a lot of what we guess are stone and ceramic (and iron!) artifacts on the mountain. Our interest in them is not for their value as treasure or souvenirs but for their value to us for practicing what archaeology we can. One truth about el castellar is that the surface material (stones, earth, etc.) is constantly being churned beneath the hooves of farm animals and nearly the entire area is exposed to the elements. We suspect that everything we find has fallen down the mountain a bit or else, for the animal traffic and weather, is not en situ. In listing the radii where we found these items, we hope to point future researchers toward coordinates that may yet hold some archaeological value. At the end of our time here will we be returning the pictured artifacts to the mountain. Sadly, we don’t have the expertise or funds to properly curate anything we find.

Hemos encontrado mucho de, supongamos, son artefactos de piedra y ceramica (y hierro!) en la montaña. Nuestra interés en ellos no esta por su valor como tesoro ni recuerdos pero para su valor a nosotros para practicar que arqueología podemos hacer. Un unico verdad sobre la montaña es que la superficie (el suelo superficial) esta expuesta a los elementos. Sospechemos que todas las cosas encontramos ha caído o bajado la montaña un poco o si no, por el tráfico ganado y la clima no estan en situ. Listamos los radioses donde hemos encontrado estos artículos porque tenemos esperanza que esos puntos en la mapa ayudaren otros investigadores encontrar sitios que todavia pueden tener valor arqueologíca. Cuando salimos el país, vamos a volver todos los artefactos a la montaña.Tristamente, no tenemos los conocimientos ni experiencia para conservar nada que encontramos.

 

bilinguality – la bilingualidad

I began my immersive Spanish experience in October of 2011. Before then, I couldn’t speak Spanish. I can’t speak perfect Spanish now, either, but in this blog I am going to try to create a bilingual experience for those who stop to read it. I’m learning too, so please have patience with me!

Yo empecé mi experiencia de inmersión con la idioma española en octubre de 2011. Antes de eso yo no podría hablar español. Cero. Nada. Ahora no puedo hablar perfectamente pero intento, vale? 🙂 En este blog voy a intentar a crear una experiencia bilingual para ellos que encontrarlo. Estoy aprendiendo también, pues ten paciencia conmigo!
